E-DRUG: General Assembly of African Essential Drugs Procurement Units (2)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Colleagues,
Improved quality, efficacy, availability and affordability of
off-patent products could significantly reduce costs of drugs in African
countries which are currently in need of essential drugs. Yet, in most
cases safety, efficacy and quality of these products cannot be adequately
assured. Hitherto,in the process of creating a more open market, the door
is open to counterfeit spurious drugs that escape every modality of
control.
This important meeting should in its deliberation consider the
expert opinion contained in the WHO Report of informal Consultation on
Interchangeability of Multisourse (Generic) Pharmaceutical Products held
in Geneva, on 23 to 27 August 1993. The participants should include
relevant people from academia with interest on rational drug use,
relevant members of regulatory authorities as well as relevant individuals
from specialized agencies.
