E-drug: Quality of multisource essential drugs
----------------------------------------------
Quality aspects become more and more important in Multisource Essential
Drugs procurements intended to developing countries and humanitarian aid.In
this perspective, we have written an article on Quality of Multisource
Essential Drugs (S.T.P. Pharma Pratiques 8(2) 137-155 1998) which you will
find below the abstract. This paper speak about quality of raw materials,
stability and bioequivalence studies which are the three fundamental
parameters for generic drugs assessment.
Abstract :
"Although the essential multisource drug is currently the only way of
making drugs financially accessible to most of the world's population, in
no case should quality be sacrificed. Yet the guarantee of a drug's quality
cannot be summarized with a good manufacturing practices certificate and
quality control test results. This article will discuss some of the
difficulties encountered in guaranteeing the quality of pharmaceutical
supplies. It will particulary emphasize risks due to the origin of raw
materials. a cornerstone of health, the drug should meet three criteria :
quality, effectiveness and safety. Due to its complexity, it requires
rigourous and specific supply procedure."
