E-DRUG: Azithromycin availability (2)

Azithromycin's patents date back from 1982 and 1985 (Merck Index
XII, 1996), so most certainly there are no generic preparations
on the market. It certainly is active against Shigella sp., but
are there really no cheaper alternatives?
