E-drug: Azithromycin sources (4)

Azithromycin was originally developed (as a "me-too") by Pliva in
former Yugoslavia. The US patents date back to 1982 and 1985; I
am not certain which date determines the end of the patent: 2002 or
2005. It was not introduced to Western European markets until
1992 after it was sold to Pfizer. Despite many claims it can hardly
be called unique, and in most cases it is replaceable.
