E-drug: Bangladesh: the pioneer regarding withdrawal of Cisapride

E-druggers,
It is a great pleasure to let you know that we have succeeded to convince
the regulatory agency about withdrawal of Cisapride from the market of
Bangladesh. The Technical Committee has already decided about the matter.
It only now require approval from the Drug Control Committee, the highest
body of the country. We are pursuing for that approval as early as
possible.
We were trying to include the "New Safety Information about Cisapride" in
the promotion materials of the drug industries since July 1999. In that
venture, we were not successful because of the reluctant attitude of the
regulatory agency. But this time, after being informed from Dr Rizwan Uddin
Ahmed of FDA through E-drug network, I have contacted with him to get more
information on that matter. After collecting all those informations through
different sources, I have posted a letter to the Directorate of Drug
Administration asking immediate withdrawal of Cisapride. This time, the
Directorate of Drug Administration acted responsibly. They convened a
meeting of the Technical Committee within fourteen days. The members were
provided with the information before the meeting individually. The method
works very efficiently. The Technical Committee has decided to issue a
letter asking the manufacturer to stop marketing Cisapride.
