[e-drug] Banning metamisole in Moldova (8)

E-drug: Banning metamisole in Moldova (8)
------------------------------------------------------------

There is little new evidence on the risks of dipyrone (metamizol).
The arguments in our publication BUKO/HAI, "Dipyrone - A drug No
one needs" are still valid. May be it is worth noting the following:

Diyprone has been suspended in Sweden for the second time in
spring 1999 - still pending autumn 2000 (may be Swedish e-
druggers can give an update).
Though it was little used 15 people died due to adverse drug
reactions after the re-introduction of dipyrone in 1996. 50 cases of
agranulocytosis were recorded. Source: SWEDIS (Swedish drug
pharmacovigilance system)

The argument that no ADR have been recorded in Moldova is
striking. We have heard this sort of defence again and again. Many
countries have no functioning pharmacovigilance system (the
European Union as a whole among them). ADR don't respect
boarders or passports. What is the rationale behind waiting people
die from ADR in each and every country before acting when the risk
of a drug is well established?
