[e-drug] behind-the-counter or "pharmacist only" prescription drugs (4)

E-DRUG: behind-the-counter or "pharmacist only" prescription drugs (4)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Sid

In Australia there are three categories of OTC medicines

1. Pharmacist-only medicines (eg, steroid nasal sprays, hydrocortisone
cream 1 per cent, stronger analgeisics, some antihistamines, morning
after pill), may be sold only in a pharmacy and under the direct
supervision of a pharmacist and are not available for self-selection.
They are stored behind the counter.

2. Pharmacy-only medicines (eg, ibuprofen, larger packs of paracetamol,
some cough and cold preparations), may be sold only in a pharmacy but
need not be placed behind the counter.

3. General sale list medicines, may be sold in other outlets as well as
pharmacies.
