[e-drug] Book launch "Medicines out of Control?"

E-drug: Book launch "Medicines out of Control?"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear E-druggers,

We are pleased to inform you about the launch of the book
"Medicines Out of Control: Antidepressants and the Conspiracy of
Goodwill." This book has been written by Charles Medawar and
Anita Hardon, while several other HAI Europe members were
closely involved in its finalisation.

The book uses the case of antidepressants to build the argument
that pharmaceutical medicine is losing sight of health and lacks
public accountability. The book highlights the role of drug
promotion, lax regulation, overprescribing and use of
mood-regulating drugs in creating a growing drug crisis. These
drugs include big trade name medicines such as Prozac and
Seroxat/Paxil.

More information about the book (table of contents, introductory
chapter, and ordering information) is available from the Social
Audit website (www.socialaudit.org.uk) , or the HAI Europe website
(www.haiweb.org)

We hope that you will find this book to be useful as a reference
when exploring the issues and problems of drug regulation and use
in your own country or health system. Please do get in touch with
the authors direct with queries and discussion points.

Yours sincerely,

Margaret Ewen
