E-DRUG: Call for Papers- Volume 3, Issue 2 of Southern Med Review
-----------------------------------------------------------------

The Southern Med Review (SMR) is in the third year of publication and the Editors are calling for papers for Volume 3, issue 2 which is expected to be published in Sep 2010. SMR has developed into a Journal which has a focus on medicines use and access research, predominantly with respect to the developing world. This is important as one third of the world’s population lacks adequate access to medicines, the majority of whom reside in the developing world. In previous issues we have had interesting contributions from researchers working in developing countries as well as those based in the developed world. The papers have been diverse in nature, from the theoretical and policy driven commentary to the more empiric. Papers have been received from far flung corners of the earth, from authors who work in academia, clinical practice, non-government organizations or a combination of these. We welcome this diversity of both content and authorship and look
forward to receiving your continued contributions in areas such as those outlined below:

Access to medicines models in the developed and developing world – compare and contrast
* WHO/HAI medicine pricing surveys
* Theoretical frameworks for moving forward with proposed research questions relating to medicines access in the developing world
* Bibliometric and systematic reviews of issues relevant to medicines access research
* Commentary and debate pieces which surface issues relevant to SMR readership
* Empirical studies of issues relevant to medicines access research
* The application of social science disciplines (sociology, psychology, organizational science and health services research) to medicines access and use in the developing world
* Medicines use in ‘our corner of the world’ – the opportunity to outline the medicines access landscape in countries for which there is very little published research
* Medicines access and use research about indigenous peoples in the developed world who may face access to medicines and health care issues (e.g. New Zealand Maori, Australian Aborigines, North American Indian, Canadian Innuit)
* Medicines access and use research about immigrants and ethnic minorities residing in the developed world who may also face access to medicines and health care issues (e.g. Refugee populations integrating into health systems in developed countries).
