E-DRUG: CEWG call for proposals on financing of R&D of developing countries
diseases
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------
The Consultative Expert Working Group on Research and Development: financing
and coordination (CEWG) which met in April 2011 for the first time at the
World Health Organisation has issued a call for submissions of proposals on
financing of R&D that addresses diseases that principally affect developing
countries
http://www.who.int/phi/news/cewg_2011/en/index.html
WHO Member States requested the establishment of the CEWG in response to
concerns that insufficient resources were being devoted globally to such
R&D. The CEWG follows on from the work of the Expert Working Group on
Research and Development: Coordination and Financing (EWG) which submitted
its final report to the World Health Assembly in 2010. The CEWG in
particular calls for
- Any new, or significantly improved or revised, proposals related to the 22
reviewed in the EWG report submissions to the EWG need not be resubmitted
to the CEWG unless substantially different
- Proposals from the 109 screened by the EWG which are thought to deserve
further consideration
- Any new or improved proposals not considered by the EWG
Proposals will be posted on the CEWG website after the deadline of June 19.
They should not exceed 3,000 words in length and should be submitted by
using a template http://www.who.int/phi/news/cewg_2011/en/index.html. The
CEWG will then analyse the proposals. Its final report will be submitted to
the World Health Assembly in 2012.
