E-DRUG: DNDi at WHA65 on recommendations from CEWG
----------------------------------------------
DNDi statement on 65th World Health Assembly resolution concerning the Consultative Expert Working Group (CEWG) recommendation on Research and Development: Financing and Coordination for the essential health needs of developing countries
------------------------------------------------
Dear Colleagues,
After long and difficult negotiations, the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) is pleased that Member States have finally agreed at the 65th WHA to a way forward to strengthen the financing and coordination of R&D to address the health needs of neglected populations.
We strongly hope that all relevant actors will contribute to national, regional, and international consultations throughout the year ahead and will implement concrete pilot projects to pave the way for a sustainable global R&D framework for the health needs of developing countries, and this under WHO leadership.
Better coordination of R&D, innovative financing mechanisms, and strong public commitment will be needed to ensure that much-needed new and adapted medical tools are made available at affordable prices to neglected patients in developing countries.
