E-DRUG: Clinical Pearls from The Cochrane Library
-------------------------------------------------
I would like to bring to your attention the January/March 2005 issue (#55)
of the Therapeutics Letter: "Clinical Pearls from The Cochrane Library" that
has just been published on the Therapeutics Initiative web-site at
http://www.ti.ubc.ca/pages/letter55.htm
As you may already be aware, The Cochrane Collaboration, founded in 1993, is
an international non-profit and independent organization, dedicated to
making up-to-date, accurate information about the effects of healthcare
interventions readily available worldwide. The Collaborations main
objectives are to conduct high quality systematic reviews of the effects of
healthcare interventions and to publish them in The Cochrane Library. The
Cochrane Library presently contains 2249 such reviews; the authors of these
reviews are committed to updating them every 2 years.
In this Therapeutics Letter we have chosen 5 Cochrane systematic reviews
that provide clear clinical evidence to direct patient care:
* Corticosteroids for acute traumatic brain injury
* Fixed dose subcutaneous low molecular weight heparins (LMWH) versus
adjusted dose unfractionated heparin (UFH) for venous thromboembolism
* Vaccines for preventing influenza in healthy adults
* Antiplatelet agents and anticoagulants for hypertension
* Effect of longer-term modest salt reduction on blood pressure
I invite you to drop by and have a look at this Letter. Please feel free to
forward this message to any of your friends or colleagues that might be
interested in this topic.
We would appreciate receiving your comments on this Therapeutics Letter and
its possible implications in clinical practice.
