E-DRUG: Clinical trials and drugs: ethics and information - 8th of October
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear E-druggers,
The NGO Farmaceuticos Mundi and Medicus Mundi Catalunya are
carrying out the awareness raising campaign called "Health for
development". Its goal is to inform about the links between human
rights, health and development in order to contribute, in the mid-term,
to improving the Catalan health cooperation.
We will organize the round table: "Clinical trials and drugs: ethics and
information" on 8 October at 7 pm in Barcelona Biomedical Research
Park. At this round table we will touch upon subjects such as ethics
in the clinical tests and informing society about drugs, which are two
key items in the production chain of a medicine. For both of them,
the right conditions must be met. Otherwise, the consequences,
mainly for the populations of poor countries, can lead to a disaster.
In order to know what is a clinical test, which are its implementations
and how we can spread research, we have invited Richard Smith. He
advocates the improvement of access to scientific results, especially
for developing countries, using a model of publications with open
access to everyone. To talk about ethics in clinical tests we will have
the participation of the Dutch organization Wemos, which publishes
studies about clinical tests in poor countries. And to explain which
information about drugs is transmitted to society, we have invited the
German organization BUKO Pharma-Kampagne, which has a long
experience in examining the marketing done and the information
given by the pharmaceutical industry in connection with drugs.
