E-drug: Compulsory licensing and access to drugs
----------------------------------------------------------
Dear Friends,
Health Action International (HAI) recently co-sponsored a meeting on
the compulsory licensing of patents and access to essential medicines
and medical technologies with Medecins Sans Frontieres and Consumer
Project on Technology.
HAI believes that in a world where the majority of consumers has
limited access or no access to needed medicines, compulsory licensing
(granting a license without permission of the patent holder for the
greater public good) is a real option to improve access. However, the
idea remains quite controversial.
To inform E-Drug readers about the debate, we invite you to read the
summary of the meeting and view many of its presentations which are
now available on HAI's website.

We will be adding to this information as more presentations and
related material become available.
Sincerely yours,
