E-DRUG: Cost of AZT in developing countries

E-DRUG: Cost of AZT in developing countries (2)
-----------------------------------------------
Dear Sid,

Have you seen the recent WHO report "The implications of
antiretroviral treatments" ? This report is a summary of an informal
consultation in April this year. There are several sections in this
which deal costs of providing AZT in developing countries under
different assumptions. In particular a paper by Katherine Floyd and
Charles Gilks goes into some detail about the costs of antiretroviral
therapy in different regions - though it does not give the bulk costs
in the way you require. Figures from Uraguay quoted in this report
says that the cost of AZT bought in bulk has been reduced to
approximately 28% of US market prices.(The person to contact at WHO,
I think, would be Erik van Praag who edited this report and has done
a lot of work in this area.)

You may be able to get this info from the Price Indicator which
Management Sciences for Health (MSH) is presently updating.
