2nd INTERNATIONAL TRAINING WORKSHOP ON PHARMACOTHERAPY - BEST CLINICAL PRACTICES
- "Case-based Didactic Lectures& Practical Skills Building on Pharmacotherapy"
Location: National Center for Energy & Environment (Near New Faculty of Pharmacy Building), University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria.
Overview: University of Benin (UNIBEN)'s Department of Clinical Pharmacy & Pharmacy Practice, in collaboration with Clinical Pharmacy & Pharmacotherapy Development Consortium, USA (CPDC), & the Center for Health Research & Disease Prevention CHRADiP is organizing a 2nd "International Training Workshop on Pharmacotherapy - Best Clinical Practices" at the University of Benin City, Nigeria.
The first edition was successfully organized at the University of Benin, in July 2013, with several stakeholders, including Nigerian Federal and State Ministries of Health, academia, practitioners and students participating.
Scope and Intent: The burden of illness disproportionately affects many people in developing countries, Nigeria inclusive. Medication use is the main intervention available for treatment, prevention, and mitigation of the progression of many disease states. Thus, drug therapy accounts for a substantial cost of the overall health expenditure in the country. Consequently, interventions to improve medication use processes, such as rational pharmacotherapy have the tremendous benefits of improving health, reducing wastage, and saving cost for individuals, families, governments, and the general society.
It is with that realization of the tremendous benefits of appropriate medication use in the country, and the need to contribute towards strengthening the nation's health systems, that this course is being organized.
Target Audience: The training workshop will target Pharmacists and other interested healthcare professionals.
Course Content: The focus of this training is to build utilizable skills, knowledge and competence in pharmacotherapy of disease management in patient care settings. Some of the key topics for the Pharmacotherapy workshop are:
Medication therapy management
Medication reconciliation
Pharmacotherapy work up of patients
Medication safety and risk assessment
Introduction to drug information services
Drug and therapeutic committee/ Essential drug management
Rational medicine use
Pharmacovigilance/ adverse drug reaction monitoring
Patient medication education/counseling
Introduction to health policy related to pharmacotherapy
Antimicrobial policy/stewardship
Antimicrobial drug resistance monitoring and containment
Cancer treatment and chemotherapy
Managing drug supply in oncology pharmacy
Several case-based practical exercises
Fee Structure: Local Participants will pay N50,000.00 for the Pharmacotherapy Workshop and N50,000.00 for the Supply Chain Workshop, and N90,000.00 to attend both workshops if registration and payment is done on or before the 3rd of May 2014. If Registration is done after the 3rd of May 2014, then the fees for the courses will go up to N60,000.00 per course and N100,000.00 for both courses.
Participants from outside Nigeria will pay $500.00 for the Pharmacotherapy Workshop and $500.00 for the Supply Chain Workshop, and $900.00 for both courses if registration and payment is done on or before the 3rd of May 2014 and if registration is done after May 3rd, then the course fee for each of the workshops becomes $700 and $1200.00 for both courses.
Please note fees ONLY cover course materials, lunches, and tea break during training.
Participants are responsible for making their own travel and lodging arrangements.
Course Faculty: The principal facilitators of these courses will be top university Professors from USA, Sweden and Nigeria as facilitators for the intensive hands-on case-based training on pharmacotherapy, covering several topics related to patient care. Profiles of faculty will be posted in the course brochures.
