Supply Chain Management of HIV & AIDS Medicines and Supplies
12 - 23 April and 25 Oct - 05 Nov, Pretoria, South Africa

ARV Access for Africa would like to announce our next ARV Supply Chain
Management training for 2010.

COURSE OBJECTIVE

To provide training in the areas of; planning, implementing, monitoring
and evaluating the procurement and supply management of ARV delivery
projects.

AUDIENCE

Anyone who is responsible for planning an ARV delivery program and
includes ARV program managers, physicians, pharmacists, health systems
managers, procurement, distribution managers and any person with a basic
medical background.

ACCREDITATION

This course was accredited by the South African Pharmacy Council in
October 2007. With the accreditation by The South African Pharmacy
Council "ARV Access for Africa" becomes one of a prestige small group of
"Provider of Courses" in South Africa.

SPECIFICS OF THE COURSE ARE:

- Expose participants to issues specific to planning the
procurement & distribution of ARV's Provide program managers with skill
in program planning implementation of supply chain management of HIV &
AIDS medicines and commodities and how to apply those skills in their
own countries.

- Provide practical tools to decision-makers in essential drugs
programs to improve their level of performance Exchange views and
experiences amongst senior decision-makers

Some of the topics include:

- Infrastructure
- Planning & budgeting
- Intro to ARV pharmacy
- Quality assurance
- Diagnostics
- Legal Issues
- Quantification
- Supplier and pre-qualification

The course is highly interactive, with presentations by experts,
facilitated group exercises, discussions and field visits.

electronic version of the Essential Medicines Monitor.

The first article is titled Mobilizing cell phones to improve
antiretroviral adherence and follow-up in Kenya:
a randomized controlled trial in progress by Richard Lester and Anthony
Kariri. This early report describes how using cell phones may improve
adherence to antiretrovirals in Kenya The single article is available

The second article is titled Monitoring and supervision of medicines
management and related pharmaceutical activities in Ghana by Felix
Yellu. This article describes how MoH staff in Ghana monitor the
management of medicines throughout the country. The article can be

The third article titled Using evidence to select essential medicines is
a study from Mali which looks at factors influencing the use of research
findings when updating the Essential Medicines List. The author Michael
Albert describes how this francophone West African country has selected
