E-DRUG: DDDs based on the adult dose (cont)

E-drug: DDDs based on the adult dose (cont)
---------------------------------------------
This is an answer to the question from Carlos Vidotti concerning the
calculation of DDDs based on the adult dose.

Official DDDs are with a very few exceptions based on the average adult
dose. Even special pharmaceutical forms mainly intended for children
(mixtures, suppositories) are assigned the DDD for adults. Exceptions are
made for some preparations mainly used by children e. g. growth hormones
and fluoride tablets. Substances or ATC groups which have DDDs based on
the use in children are especially mentioned in the Guidelines for ATC
classification and DDD assignment.
