E-DRUG: Dipyrone in Sweden (contd.)
-----------------------------------

Dear E-druggers,

According to Dr rjan Mortimer, who is at the Swedish Medical Product
Agency's Toxicology Division, the sale of Novalgin [metamizole] has been
suspended. This means, he explained, that it is taken off the market for
12 months, and will thereafter be formally withdrawn unless Hoechst can
supply radically new evidence about its safety. Metamizole is, like all
other pharmaceuticals that are not in the Swedish pharmacopoeia, still
available under a special license, the granting of which is subject to
the MPA's decision in each individual case. There have been no requests
for a license so far.

Dr Mortimer is responsible for public relations in the Novalgin case,
and I suggest you follow my example and contact him by phone if you need
additional info! Phone: +46-18-17 46 48.
