[e-drug] Dipyrone/metamizol revisited (11)

E-DRUG: Dipyrone/metamizol revisited (11)
---------------------------------------------------

Dear E-druggers,

I have some points to raise..

1. Why most developed countries banned dipyrone (US, UK, Sweden, Australia,
etc) but still available in many developing countries (including Thailand as
prescription drugs - in injection, syrup, and tablet form, both single and
combination)? Is it the ethnic differences or weakness of ADR detection and
regulatory action in developing countries?

2. How about situation in Germany? All dipyrone preparation banned? If yes why
German company still marketed this drugs in other countries (including Thailand).

3. If the drugs are bad they should not be classified as essential drugs.
However, is there any code to prohibit companies from marketing these bad drugs in
other countries?

4. I am now surveying whether banned drugs in the UN list still are available in
Thailand. We are selecting drugs to survey and dipyrone is one of them. This is
in collaboration with HAIAP to do the same thing in other countries (India,
Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and etc.). Has anyone done similar study like this?

Thanks
Niyada

----------------------------------------------

In India, we keep tract of all globally banned drugs that are still being marketed in India. These are listed under "Discarded Drugs" in every issue of MIMS INDIA. These include metamizol.

In addition hundreds of irrational combinations, that are not permitted in any advanced country, are also being marketed in India. An upadted list of such combinations appears in ever issue of MIMS INDIA under the heading "Irrational Combinations."
