Dear Kirsten and E-drug colleagues,
As agranulocytosis is probably the result of an allergic reaction to
dipyrone the first administration probably does not count; we have
to know the result of repeated administrations, and that we simply do
not (yet) know. So many uncertainties disturb the balance between
efficacy and safety that there is no firm reason (except its low
price) to keep the drug on essential drug lists, formularies etc.
But all this does not remove the doubts about the IAAAS study, and
the "one-in-a-million" story should be firmly allocated to the realm
of fairy-tales.
