E-DRUG: Drug Donations (cont)
-----------------------------
Dear All:
It's always refreshing when someone has the courage to ask what might seem
to be the "obvious" question -- which often isn't so obvious at all. In
this case, the question is, should someone get a tax break for giving away
something that has no real value? Plainly, if one has any concept of fair
play, the answer should be no.
In fact, it IS "no." Under the IRS rules, the donated product must have a
value in the marketplace. Thus, a drug with, say, six months remaining
before expiration, has ZERO market value, for the simple reason that no
pharmacy would buy it. Therefore, a firm that "donates" a drug with six
months' life expectancy is entitled to NO tax deduction.
Sounds reasonable to me. What do you think?

[Jim, what is your surname & affiliation? Please can all E-druggers 'sign'
their messages with a signature file, including at least affiliation and
email, but preferably also phone, fax and snailmail? Thanks! WB]
