E-DRUG: Drug Policy Issues for Developing Countries course

I hope that most suscribers to E-Drug list have received a flyer and
application form for this course which will be offered here in Boston next
year 2-22nd March 1996. The course which will be a joint Boston University
WHO/DAP collaboration.

The course is aimed at policy makers and senior managers from developing
countries and senior donaor officials. The faculty will be drawn from WHO,
Universities (Boston University, Harvard, London School of Hygiene and
Tropical Medicine and Massachussetts college of Pharmacy) World Bank, FDA
and PAHO.

The course will be organized as a seminar series with ample opportunity for
structured small group discussions based on readings and presentations by
faculty. We will limit attendence at the course to 35 participant with
preference being given to developing country applicants. The course fee will
be $3,000 for tuition and $200 for materials. Accomodation and airfare will
of course be extra.

The main topics which will be covered are listed below with faculty names in
brackets:
Assessment of Drug systems (Pascale Brudon, Michael Reich and possibly Jim
Rankin)
Developing a national drug policy, (Pascale Brudon and Michael Reich again)
This will include a demonstration of computerized political mapping of the
Bangladesh experience)
Selection Formularies and Treatment Guidelines (Hans Hogerzeil)
Ethical guidelines for drug promotion ( Industry rep)
Promoting Rational Use of drugs (Hans Hogerzeil, Dennis Ross-degnan and me)
Procurement Issues (Dennis Broun and possibly Jim Rankin)
Production Issues (Industry rep and Susan Foster)
Financing Issues (Susan Foster and Mike Trisolini)
Regulation and Legislation including ICH (Stuart Nightingale and Enrique Fefer)
Human Resource Planning (Michael Montagne and me)
Intersectoral collaboration (Bill Bicknell and me)

I am interested in receiving keynote, short readings which we could use for
this course particularly related to production, procurement and human
resources issues. If anyone on the e-drug list could send me or recomend
such readings I would be grateful.
