[e-drug] Drug price mechanisms - request for information

E-drug: Drug price mechanisms survey - request for information
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Philippine National Drug Policy Program (PNDPP) of the Department of
Health is currently gathering data to compare the drug price/market
situation in the Phils. and in other countries. In this regard, may we
request your utmost assistance in providing us with vital information on
the following drug price issues prevailing in your respective countries for
our immediate reference:
1.. Is there a government price control mechanism for drugs and
medicines?
2.. If yes, what type of drug price control mechanism did your government
adapt for its prevailing market situation? (i.e. imposition of price
ceilings, issuance of suggested retail prices, mandated price control,
national health insurance drug reimbursement schemes)
3.. What is the legal basis for such a mechanism?
4.. What was the process in adapting a drug price control mechanism (i.e.
is it self-imposed, through creation of a task force/council or through a
series of consultative meetings/public hearings)
5.. What are the types/categories of drugs under price control?
6.. What is the formula used in coming up with a price ceiling or
suggested retail price for a particular drug?
7.. How did this mechanism affect the economic and market situation in
your country?
8.. What are the lessons learned from this experience?
