E-drug: Drugs of Choice
---------------------------------------------
Drugs of Choice, which is a book I and two colleagues are
authors of, tries to select medications on the basis of evidence.
The book is written for Canadian general practitioners and
therefore we have included a number of medications that would
not necessarily be on the EDL of a developing country. Also,
given the intended audience some of the drugs that specialists
use are left out of our recommendations, e.g. cancer
chemotherapy drugs. What we have done is come up with a list
of just over 190 problems that we think that general practitioners
in a Canadian context would initiate therapy for. Then we have
done a Medline search on each topic to come up with our
recommendations. (We do not try and do a comprehensive
search, but one that satisfies us that the drugs we are
recommending are cost effective.) The third edition should be
out by the end of this month. It will be available from the
Canadian Medical Association for CAN$19.95 for either the
book or disk (Windows only) version or CAN$24.95 for both.
Anyone interested in ordering it should contact the Canadian
Medical Association, Membership Services, 1867 Alta Vista Dr.,
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada K1G 3Y6. Anyone who would like
more information on Drugs of Choice can look at our website:

that the information on the website is based on the second
edition of the book.)
