E-DRUG: Job Opening: Senior Lecturer in Pharmacy at University of Malawi

In the Pharmacy Department of the College of Medicine, University of
Malawi, the position of Senior Lecturer or Professor is to be filled as
soon as possible.
The successful candidate is expected to interact closely with all staff
members of the Pharmacy Department, with an emphasis of mentoring the
junior staff members and strategically advising the Head of Department.
Furthermore, the successful candidate will interact with pharmacy staff
at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (pharmacist, pharmacy technicians,
pharmacy interns). She/he is expected to teach students within the
BPharm course (40-60 students per class), and to teach in future
postgraduate courses.
Particularly, she/he should contribute to:
1) Strengthening the quality of undergraduate teaching, and development
of postgraduate courses, at the Pharmacy Department
2) Establishment of pharmaceutical research projects which are related
to the national health priorities of Malawi
3) Academic advancement of the junior faculty members of the Pharmacy
Department
4) Improvement of the quality of pharmaceutical services in Malawi, with
an emphasis on the pharmacy of Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital
5) Strengthening national policies in issues of pharmacy education and
pharmaceutical services
We look for a licensed pharmacist, or a person with an academic degree
in related field (preferably holding a PhD). The successful candidate
should have experience in pharmacy practice, teaching and research. Work
and teaching experience in a resource-poor environment is desirable.
According to current needs and priorities in the Pharmacy Department,
special experience in one of the following fields is welcome:
pharmaceutics, medicinal chemistry, pharmacovigilance.
Applicants with citizenship of Germany or another EU member country can
be employed as Integrated Expert, connected with the German Development
Cooperation. They would enter into a work contract with the College of
Medicine. The German GIZ/CIM supports this employment relationship by
topping up the salary and participating in payments to the German social
security system. As a rule, the contract is for two years; however, this
