E-DRUG: Essential drugs & human rights (5)
------------------------------------------

Hi E-druggers,

I agree with Bhava Narayana. You dont kill one and then shed crocodile tears later, expressing sorrow over the death.

In India there is no special consideration for essential medicines.Except for some concessions in case of IV fluids, all other essential medicines are taxed like other medicines.

Health is the State subject in India. The Constitution of India guarantees it. But citizenry gets the essential medicines taxed equally like nutritional supplements and health foods. If the Government itself earns on the production and sale of essential medicines, what human rights are we talking about? If disease state of the citizenry is considered to be tax earning opportunity for the State, it negates the medicine rights.

The condition is akin to dead person's body being levied taxes/charges for cremation.

It is economics at its worst. No effort to justify taxes and levies on vital, life saving medicines can be accepted.
