E-DRUG: Essential drugs in Tokyo University

E-drug: Essential drugs in Tokyo University
---------------------------------------------
To Francisco Flores,
I am not very sure what you really mean by "factors that facilitate access
to essential drug list". I imagine that you are interested to get
information on how to develop an essential drug list for a teaching
(Universty) hospital. If I have interpreted your request correctly, then
the right approach is to establish "The Hospital Formulary" through the
Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee etc. The development of such a formulary
should make use of evidence based medicine and wherever possible the
concept of pharmacoeconomics. When we developed our own hospital formulary
(University Hospital as well) we used the WHO approved ATC System of
Classification. This classification reduces the duplication of medicines
within similar chemical entity. If this brief explanation identifies what
you want I shall offer you some of our own experiences and whatever other
literature you may need.
