Dear E-druggers,
Rural health facilities in Kenya are provided with ferrous sulphate
tablets. The staff in the rural health facilities are mostly enrolled
nurses and occasionally Clinical Officers (Medical Assistants).A large
percentage of patients who present to the clinics are under 5 with iron
deficiency anaemia. The staff are scared of prescribing iron because
they are afraid of iron overdose and the other reason is the
preoccupation with syrups.
Anybody with a simple dosage formula for ferrous for children? Is there
any body with a simple explaination on how to make ferrous syrup from
the tab?
The instructions have to be simple and easy for a nurse who sees 50-100
patients in a day.
Some drug companies are pushing Branded iron syrups which are expensive
and not available in the rural health facilities.
