The European Commission is not known for its openness when it comes
to policy development. However, recently the Commission announced an
open consultation on an issue that may interest the E-Drug audience:
"Commercial communications in the internal market". The aim is to
seek views of everybody interested in the issue.
The Green Paper (COM(96)192 final) sets out a framework for future
regulations in this field. It is clear that any future regulation will
have a direct influence on advertising in the health and
pharmaceuticals sector. In broad terms the paper covers issues such as
promotional activities, pricing, and branding strategies. An attached
working document (XV/9579/96) gives an overview of research findings
and lists existing regulations and codes in all EU member states.
The documents are interesting for everybody working on drug promotion.
