African Studies and African Health Anthology are two valuable collec-
tions of bibliographic database resources published by NISC South Af-
rica. They are used by academic and research communities in Africa
and worldwide. References indexed derive from journals, books, peri-
odical articles, reports, pamphlets, maps, theses, grey literature
and more. Databases are updated quarterly and new databases are added
as they become available.
Databases located in Europe and America are combined for the first
time with African resources providing unique relevant and powerful
information collections offering access to worldwide publications
about and from Africa. NISC has organized efficient one stop access
to the published information of Africa.
1) African Health Anthology (AHA)
AHA offers access to over 477,000 references from 13 databases and
includes publications on health issues relevant to Africa and pub-
lished in Africa. Databases from Europe and America are augmented by
databases from Africa and elsewhere to provide a unique collection of
relevant information which covers the major health issues of Africa
and provides access to the health publications from Africa.
Topics covered include AIDS/HIV, communicable diseases, community &
public health, tropical medicine & disease, hygiene, water-borne dis-
eases, parasitology, medicines, therapeutics, medicinal & poisonous
plants, traditional medicine, alternative medicine, sanitation, hy-
giene, family planning and more.
Subscribers to African Health Anthology on CD-ROM will receive NISC's
AIDSearch on CD-ROM free.
2) African Studies (AFRS)
This multi-disciplinary resource on Africa combines seventeen data-
bases from three continents, Africa, Europe and North America. This
premier information resource contains more than 353,000 indexed ref-
erences most of which have abstracts. Topics covered include poli-
tics, history, economics, development, business, mining, social is-
sues, anthropology, literature, language, law, music, art, natural
history, tourism and much more.
