experiences and opportunities
Thursday 9 June 2011
NLB Conference Room 7, 1:15-2:30 pm

Globalization and economic development are changing the face of global health and the way we do business. Never before has there been such a degree of interdependence between the public and private spheres to achieve greater global access to health products and knowledge.
This briefing session will showcase lessons learnt from market-based solutions to improve access to treatment to date, describe current challenges to innovation and access in the area of AIDS, and suggest how stakeholders can come together with new approaches to address these challenges.
Michel Sidibé, Executive Director of UNAIDS and Philippe Douste-Blazy, Chairman of the Executive Board of UNITAID, will introduce the session. Brief presentations will be made to frame the discussion by UNITAID, the Medicines Patent Pool, Gilead Sciences, and a ministerial level representative from a developing country. There will be time for Q&As and comments.
To register for this side event please contact Ms Allison Warren, hillal@who.int by 6 June COB (5 pm) CET.
