E-DRUG: How can we promote rational use of medicines? (10)
-------------------------------------------------
Dear E-Druggers
Lets try to understand by example on Psychotropic/narcotic properties of medicines, which are most 'regulated' category for manufacturing, distribution, clinical indications, prescribing, dispensing (even storage) As compared to other class of medicines (including antibiotics)
Morally communities Understanding on adverse/effects is 'adequate' as compared to other products (including antibiotics).
In India, the prices of some psychotropic/narcotic preparations are regulated under the 'essential drugs' (if not every preparation). Means, sales of this products are not 'first chose for profits'. But surly it adds extra income.
Recently in India, police is allowed to conduct raids on the name of, to monitor stocks of narcotics in pharmacys & warehouses. fat bureaucracy & new players (like police) has contributed to higher amount of cuts, which resulted to continue sale psychotropic preparations for extra income
How to promote rational use of medicines, in other classes of medicines (such as antibiotics) with higher profits/incentives, lesser paper work to records. Who will bell the cat(s)??
The solution(s) for promoting rational use of medicines have to be searched from the changing patrons of governance, i.e communities role (via NGOs) have to be increased in policy framing, capacity to implements policies, access to evaluation & transparency for accountabilities.
The core can be formation of Standard Treatment Guideline.
