E-DRUG: IATT Optimal List of Pediatric ARV Formulations
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pediatric HIV infection treatment levels lag far behind adult coverage and far
below the level needed to protect and treat infants and children exposed to
HIV. The market for pediatric ARVs is also significantly smaller and more
complicated than that for adult ARVs, but also fragmented due to the
changing needs of growing children and the availability of a wide variety
of different, but often duplicative drug products. Guidance from WHO has
also changed over recent years with a resulting need to quickly shift
regimens as new evidence and recommendations necessitate procurement of
more optimal drugs.
This has led to a difficult situation for many program and procurement
supply chain managers in deciding what product to purchase. In turn, this
has reduced the commercial attraction of this market sector for
manufacturers faced with multiple small orders.
To respond to these challenges the *IATT Optimal List of Pediatric ARV
Formulations* provides advice and guidance to implementing partners and
procurement and supply chain managers on the recommended products that will
enable programs to deliver the best care in accordance with the current WHO
Regimen Guidance and consolidate procurements around a small number of key
products to shape and stabilize this market sector.

A Webinar to present the report and discuss use of the list will be hosted
by IATT on June 12, please save the date and encourage your clients and
in-country stakeholders to do the same. Details to follow.
The IATT encourages governments and implementing partners to transition
their paediatric ARV orders to the formulations recommended in the Optimal
List.
