E-DRUG: Implementing De-Prescribing Campaigns

Dear E-Druggers,

I am a pharmacist and former pharmaceutical ad writer in California who
founded a non profit addressing misinformation in medicine. I recently gave
a Tedx Talk entitled "Why Drug Companies Rule American Health Care and What
We can Do about It".

In my talk, I propose a new approach to science dissemination - one that
brings together physicians, researchers and science communicators looking
for new innovative ways to talk with providers and patients.

Would like to hear from anyone who believes that we need to organize in
order to address de-implementation and stop and/or replace ineffective
interventions.

BTW, here is a description of how RxBalance and VA physicians co-created
content to reduce over-treatment in older patients with diabetes.

Hi Lydia
We are fortunate to have a very different medicines control system here in
the UK but we are still keen to ensure we avoid over-prescription

One workstream is the EDeN project

We also have a National Health System approach called the DROP list

Despite these items being prohibited for prescription on the NHS it has
taken intensive time and input from the pharmacy teams to implement this
strategy since 2011. We start with the prescribers but then also offer to
work with patients who are resistant to discontinue or unable to stop
treatment. I would say we are approx 95% there in my local region! The last
5% will be the toughest.
