E-DRUG: Important: Satellife and E-drug
---------------------------------------
Dear E-druggers,
As most of you are well aware, E-drug is an on-line community that relies on three critical components:
you the readers and thought contributors,
the moderators who volunteer their time, and
SATELLIFE.
SATELLIFE makes our conversations on important topics possible, as SATELLIFE hosts the discussions, provides the technical support, and troubleshoots the networks. E-drug would not exist in its current form without SATELLIFE coordinating these crucial behind-the-scenes activities.
SATELLIFE is small non-profit organization, which publishes HealthNet News, HNN-AIDS, HNN-Community Health and HNN-Nursing, and thereby bringing over 20,000 readers in the developing countries free access to the most relevant information from respected peer reviewed medical and public health journals. In addition to E-drug, SATELLIFE hosts eleven other free discussion forums on health-related topics. Together SATELLIFEs publications and discussion groups reach an estimated 130,000 people in 159 of countries every day.
The news, information, ideas, and communication we depend on from SATELLIFEs discussion groups and publications are provided for free, but that does not mean that there is no cost to these services. They do, and SATELLIFE has so far depended on financial donations to make them possible and to provide them at no cost. However, SATELLIFE needs our help now, as there is a serious shortfall in SATELLIFEs funding.
SATELLIFEs commitment to providing us with this forum for the open exchange of information and ideas, unfettered by commercial interference or censorship, is unwavering but the expenses are unrelenting. Each of us must now ask ourselves not only
How much is E-drug worth to me?
but also,
How much is it worth to me that E-drug is available to all of my colleagues around the world at no cost?
If you believe, as we do, that the answer to these questions is its worth a lot please join with me in giving as much as you can afford to keep E-drug and SATELLIFE alive. Some ideas to increase support for E-drug and SATELLIFE may be to:
- Speak to your employer -- or others who are in the position to also make a donation. Tell them how much E-drug means to you and your colleagues, and ask them to help by donating to SATELLIFE.
- If you are able, please also make a personal financial contribution (see details below).
- Let us know how this discussion group makes a difference your stories help us explain why this is important to support!
Working together, we can meet this challenge thank you for your help!
