E-drug: Industry clinical trials in developing countries (cont'd)
---------------------------------------------

Sonia,

This subject has been discussed by several colleagues on the Spanish
version of this list, e-farmacos., which also has searchable archives. You
will also find another Spanish-language publication, Boletn Farmacos,
helpful. .

I have seen reports in various Latin American media sources on the topic,
but these often are not translated into English. One that was appeared in
Clarin, a major newspaper from Buenos Aires in May of '03. However, no
drugs nor drug companies were mentioned by name.

The Boston Globe ran an article on the topic recently:

The following story appeared in The Globe Online:
Headline: Clinical trials seen shifting out of US
Date: 7/11/2003
Byline:

" Drug companies are recruiting more and more of their subjects for
clinical trials in Eastern Europe, Latin America, and other overseas
locales because of a shortage of American subjects, according to a
Tufts University study released yesterday."
