[Interesting and rather sad actually that a hospital is appointed to perform certain functions without being given the basic tools. Moderator]

One cause of failure in the appropriate functioning of health systems in developing societies is the lack of information. Illiteracy rate may be high but the least we can do is to provide information to the educated ones (who represent the many that lack the capacity to process information) who may look for information (even at places they should be found) and do not find.

Salisu, you may wish to follow this link:

Dear Salisu Hashim Muhammad,

You may be interested to know that the British National Formulary has now
issued a companion volume to the regular BNF - the BNF for Children. There
is a section on prescribing for HIV infected children. The link is:
bnfc.org. I am told that electronic access is free to all HINARI countries
(I will make further enquiries - today is Saturday and the offices are
closed - and notify e-drug readers of which countries are eligible since
I'm not too sure).

It seems to me a great pity that the accessibility to children's
prescribing information is to be - to an extent - restricted; the standard
BNF remains accessible to all.

This decision comes at a time when there is growing sensitivity to the need
to understand which drugs should be used for children, and how they should
be used.

The BNF 50th edition September 2005 remains freely available at BNF.org.

The WHO (and its funders) should be encouraged by e-drug readers to produce
a WHO Formulary for Children - to complement its 2004 Formulary.

I hope this information will be of use to you and to others.
