E-drug: Injectable vitamins used for self-treatment? (cont)
---------------------------------------------
Injectable vitamins are common in many countries, widely used even in
health facilities for minor common symptoms. In many health centres
in Indonesia a few years back, almost two third of patients attending
health centres received at least one injectables. Of these
injectables were either antibiotics, nalagesics (dypiron) or vitamin
Bcomplex/B1. There have been substantial reduction nowadays due to
effective campaign, educational intervention as well as managerial
intervention. Availability of these injectables both in the market
and health facilities has induced their over and misuse by providers
and consumers. Providers has more incentives or economic profit by
giving injectables. Reducing their availability through a kind of
managerial intervention would probably be more effective and
sustainable in reducing the misuse of injectable vitamin.
