E-DRUG: International Society to Improve the Use of Medicines (ISIUM)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear E-druggers

As co-founders of the International Society to Improve the Use of Medicines (ISIUM), we have been very heartened to see the positive and enthusiastic support being expressed on E-drug for the need for the Society and its potential (https://www.isium.org/)

The success of our first international meeting that was held in Bangkok in January was very gratifying; not only was there a remarkable mix of delegates (w.r.t. age groups, professions, interests, nationalities etc) but it was so refreshing to see all participants so willingly sharing their experiences and information, and obviously delighting in being part of a learning/sharing community. It confirmed our belief that there is a great deal of enthusiasm, especially amongst the younger generation, for a reawakening of the movement to promote rational/quality use of medicines. The clear commitment to find more meaningful ways to achieve results especially in local communities, and also for national and institutional policy, was inspirational.

We are presently writing the report of the conference and will share it with E-druggers as soon as it is ready. Kathy Holloway has raised already a number of issues emerging from the conference in the pages of E-drug, such as the need for an open source resource of independent information. We appreciate the thoughtful response of Neil Packenham-Walsh and will follow up his invitation to collaborate.

Since the ISIUM meeting many of us who were involved have been thinking, planning and working hard to harness the enthusiasm that was generated, and we are very keen to work with like-minded individuals and groups. We are very appreciative and open to any suggestions and proposals that might further our contribution to better use of medicines.

Do contact us (mary.murray@isium.org or mary.hemming@isium.org ).

And, of course, we need all the support we can get so please consider joining ISIUM!

This is a very good initiative because without responsible use of medicine access can be counter productive and for responsible use medicine information is very critical.
