Announcement of the International Course on 'Patient Medication safety and
Quality Management' at IIHMR University, Jaipur, India, from July 13 to 15,2015
The IIHMR University, Institute of Health Management Research, Jaipur has
been contributing towards this very topical issue of international
importance through its flagship yearly WHO sponsored International Courses
in Promoting Rational Drug Use in Communities (PRDUC); Since 2003, 11 PRDUC
programs, 3 international courses on Anti retroviral and Related Drug
Supply Chain Management in Low Resource Settings, 2 international training
courses in Pharmaceutical Management in Hospitals, one each program on
Rational Use of Medicines with focus on HIV, TB & Malaria, and
International Procurement of Medicines; Health Supplies have already been
organized by the IIHMR.
In view of the current global focus on Patient safety, an International
Course on “Patient Medication safety and Quality Management” will be
organized at IIHMR University, Jaipur from July 13-15, 2015.
About the Course
WHO estimates that 10% of patients worldwide are affected due to errors in
medical care. Hence these adverse drug events and medication errors cause
significant health and economic repercussions both in developed and
developing countries. Therefore a global concerted effort is needed to
address patient medication safety and it needs by involving all health-care
stakeholders, including patients.
Objectives of course
The specific objectives of the program are:
- To enable participants understand the concepts and need of medication
safety culture in organization.
-To Develop error-reduction strategies around the use of high-alert
medications
-To discuss effective communication techniques and human error that may
impact on patient medication safety.
- To create a patient medication safety culture in hospital.
Design:
The course is participatory in nature and uses the knowledge,
skills and experiences of participants as a major resource throughout.
Teaching methods include group activities, field work, presentations and
discussions. The course will be conducted in English. The participants are
required to have a good command of this language to participate efficiently.
