E-drug: Ketoconazole (cont)

Ketoconazole has been withdrawn from the majority of Western
European markets because of the high risk of serious liver damage
with a high mortality. It is only available for external use
(shampoo). It has been replaced by itraconazole (which is slightly
safer) and fluconazole (which is much safer). These problems have
been discussed at length by the CPMP and the FDA, and there is a
massive amount of relevant literature. If you want to know more
