Dear e-druggers,
Experiment in "crowd-researching"
The Lancet Commission on Essential Medicines Policies is in the active stage
of data collection, and would like to try an experiment with
crowd-researching. We are in the process of creating a full database of all
national lists of essential medicines (EML), collecting information from WHO
and any other sources; with the first goal to include this information in
the Commission's report and the ultimate goal of updating the WHO
documentation centre.
We are particularly interested in the date of the very
first national EML of countries, in order to study and describe the history
of the EM concept. The data base is getting complete, but for some countries
we cannot get the necessary information. Your help is very much appreciated.
Question:
Below is a first list of countries (alphabetically; countries from Algeria
to Fiji) where we have a problem with data collection. Can you please check,
for your own country, what our question is?
Any information is welcome, and
can be sent to: Hans Hogerzeil, (h.v.hogerzeil@umcg.nl)
With many thanks for your support,
Hans Hogerzeil

Crowd-research question 1:
Algeria. One EML was obtained (2006). When were the other ones published?
American Samoa. According to this website
(http://www.prn.usm.my/old_website/cc/summary.html) there should be an EML
but when was/ were it/ they published?
Angola. One EML was obtained (2008). When were the other ones published?
Antigua and Barbuda. Was the first list published in 2003?
Argentina. The 2005 EML is the 10th edition. When were the previous EMLs
published?
Australia. One list was obtained (2007). This is probably a reimbursement
list. Is there a previous list?
Austria. There is a reimbursement list, which seemingly was first published
in 2005, but this is unclear given the ambiguous formulation. "The most
recent change in the reimbursement list occurred in 2005, when the EKO and
the system of different boxes were introduced" [EKO = positive list of
pharmaceuticals] http://apps.who.int/medicinedocs/documents/s17125e/s17125e.
pdf. Was the first positive list published in 2005?
Azerbaijan. Was there an EML prior to 2005?
The Bahamas. Was there an EML prior to 2001?
Bahrain. Was there an EML prior to 2001?
Belize. Was there an EML prior to 2001 or was the first EML published in
2001?
Bolivia. Was there a list prior to 1995?
Brazil. According to (http://www.anvisa.gov.br/medicamentos/essencial.htm)
the first EML seems to be from 1998/1999. Is this correct? When were the
second and third editions published?
Brunei Darussalam. Was there an EML prior to 2004?
Bulgaria. The first positive drugs list seems to be from 2007. Is this
correct?
Burkina Faso. Was there an EML prior to 1997?
Burundi. The EML from 2012 is the 7th edition. When were the previous
editions published?
Cabo Verde. Was there an EML prior to 2003?
Cambodia. Was the first EML published in 1989?
Central African Republic. Was the first EML published in 1993?
Chad. Was the first EML published in 1995?
Chile. Was the first EML published in 1996?
Colombia. Was the first EML published in 2002?
Cook Islands. The 2007 list is a revision of the 2003 list, but was there a
list prior to 2003?
Côte d'Ivoire. Was the first EML published in 1995?
Cuba. The years 2008-2014 have been confirmed via the 2014 list, but when
were the previous EMLs published?
Cyprus. Was there an EML/reimbursement list before 2003?
Czech Republic. Was there a reimbursement list before 2007?
Djibouti. Was the first EML published in 1997?
Dominica. Was the first EML published in 2003?
Dominican Republic. The first EML was published in 1983, last in 2005, but
when were the ones in between published?
Ecuador. The first EML was published in 1986, last in 2013, but when were
the ones (aside from 2010, 2006 and 2002) in between published?
El Salvador. The 2009 list is edition 10a. When were the other editions
published (aside from 2003 and 2006)?
Equatorial Guinea. Was there an EML prior to 2000?
Eritrea. 5th edition: 2010, 4th: 2005, 3rd: 2001 (correct?), but when were
the 2nd and 1st published?
Estonia. Was there a reimbursement list prior to 2007?
Fiji. Was the first edition of the essential drugs list published in 1999?
