ProCAARE - ART: Program for Collaboration Against AIDS and Related
Epidemics - AntiRetroviral Therapy
ProCAARE-ART, a new electronic forum, aims to develop an information and
communication network that supports the rational prescription, appropriate
use, and adherence to antiretroviral therapy for those infected with HIV.
Given the increasing access to antiretroviral drugs and the scaling up of
treatment programs, the need to administer these drugs in a safe and
effective manner is critical. The primary intent of the forum is to support
the exchange of ideas and flow of information that will have direct,
practical relevance to health care providers who are currently prescribing
ART and those who are planning to do so. Issues such as, but not limited
to, the best time to initiate therapy, adherence to treatment regimens and
side effects, monitoring practices, drug formulations, structured treatment
interruptions, and nutritional and cultural factors will be explored and
discussed in-depth in this forum. We invite all interested health
practitioners, community health workers, PWAs, program managers, and policy
makers to actively participate and contribute to the dialogue. To maintain
a high-quality and lively interaction, expert moderators in HIV/AIDS and
ART will facilitate the discussions.
As collaborating partners, SATELLIFE and HEALTH & DEVELOPMENT NETWORKS
(HDN) administer and support the discussion groups ProCAARE and
ProCAARE-ART. SATELLIFE's mission is to serve the urgent health needs of
the world's poorest nations by stimulating the flow of information and
creating local knowledge networks in support of healthy communities through
the innovative use of information and communication technologies. The
mission of HDN is to mobilize a more effective rsponse to HIV/AIDS and
other health and development-related issues by improving information,
communication and the quality of debate.
