[e-drug] List of Essential NCD-Medicines

E-DRUG: List of Essential NCD-Medicines
-------------------------------------------------------------

Dear E-drug readers,

NCDs are in focus. Access to affordable NCD-medicines and the need on
sufficient knowledge at all professional levels about optimal use of NCDs
are entering our agendas.

I am wondering about which key NCD-medicines should be given first priority
for clinic level, for hospital level, for reference hospitals.

WHO published “Package of Essential Non-communicable disease Interventions
for PHC in Low Resource Settings” in 2010:
.pdf>
And in addition, excellent implementation tools to download:
<http://apps.who.int/iris/bitstream/10665/133525/1/9789241506557_eng.pdf>

In the first doc I find I find a list of 34 products titled:
“Core list of medicines required for implementing essential NCD interventions in primary care. For primary care facilities with physicians”.

But this is based on WHO model list of Essential Medicine 16th, 2009. In the
meantime the 19th edition had been published last year. And it is focusing
on level one (primary care) only.

I am wondering if an updated list of key Essential NCD medicines exists
selected to the different levels of facilities.

If we can’t find, who could take the lead for quick developing?
