E-DRUG: Minimum qualification for registration as pharmacist (2)
----------------------------------------------------------
[EU has common requirements for all member countries. I think this is more a FIP (www.fip.org) subject than E-drug discussion. Clearly a pharmacist is not of the same standard globally and is a point to remember. Moderator]
Dear E-Druggers
The survey results by Subhash C Mandal point out that India is the only country that have minimum qualification for registration is Diploma in Pharmacy. I would like to add an intriguing comparison of minimum qualification required for an Indian to practice pharmacy in India and the US
In India: A Diploma holder who have two years pharmacy course after 10+2 and 500 hours of practical training spread over a period of not less than 3 months
In the US: To practice pharmacy the same Indian must be an M. Pharm. that requires 6 years study after 10+2 ( beginning January 1, 2003 pharmacists must have graduated from five-year Degree in Pharmacy); passes TSE (test of spoken English); passes FPGEE ( foreign pharmacy graduate equivalent examination) and thereafter NAPLEX and should have 1500 hours of internship.
Any comment on this wide gap of pharmacist's educational experience?
