E-DRUG: motility agents in promoting enteral feeding (2)
-------------------------------------------------------
Dear Chee Lan,
The indications of erythromycin are: alternative to penicillin
in hypersensitive patients; campylobacter enteritis; pneumonia,
legionnairesdisease, syphilis, non-gonococcal urethritis, chronic
prostatitis, diphteria and whooping cough prophylaxis; acne vulgaris and
rosacea.
By the other side, erythromycin produce as side-effects diarrhoea
(antibiotic-associated colitis reported).
If this critical patient needs a drug to improve motility, then
erythromycin is not a good choice.
Metoclopramide also must be used with caution, and not for a longer periods
of time.
