E-DRUG: MPP events this week - join us online!
----------------------------------------------------------------

Dear colleagues,

We just wanted to let you know that we are organising three online events this week:

Two are part of the ICASA conference:

#1: COVID-19: Strengthening Africa's vaccine manufacturing capacity through the South African mRNA technology transfer hub
Today (Monday) 6 December 14:15-15:00 SAST - 13:15-14:00 CET.
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted inequities in access to vaccines, in part due to shortfalls in local production. The establishment of the South African mRNA technology transfer hub will allow the development of greater and more diversified vaccine manufacturing capability, the strengthening of African regional health security, and a more equitable response to the current and future pandemics. Building capacity on African soil will also be a strategic investment for the day a HIV vaccine may become available.

#2 : Paving the way to access to long-acting technologies.
Thursday 9 December 08:45-09:30 SAST - 07:45-08:30 CET
With the recent signing of the first MPP long-acting technologies voluntary licence, what should we consider in order to enhance access to long-acting therapeutics for HIV prevention and treatment, and why is it critical to anticipate potential access hurdles as early as possible?

#3: The last one is a zoom webinar open to all :First consultative forum on the mRNA Vaccine Technology Transfer Hub
Thursday 9 December 14:00-16:00 SAST - 13:00-15:00 CET
Convened by the Department of Science and Innovation, South Africa, and in collaboration with the mRNA consortium partners - this open consultation on the mRNA Vaccine Technology Transfer hub provides an opportunity for open dialogue with partners, media and all stakeholders on progress to date and next steps.

The mRNA Vaccine Technology Transfer Hub was established in June 2021 to response to the flagrant inequities in access to COVID-19 vaccines in low- and middle-income countries, especially in Africa. The Hub's purpose is to increase access to mRNA vaccines made closer to home by establishing manufacturing capacity using a technology transfer hub model to ensure sustainable vaccine security in future pandemics. The vision is for a multilateral technology transfer initiative for biologicals aimed at improving health and health security in LMIC's through sustainable, regional production of essential health biologicals.
