E-DRUG: NAFDAC - drug controls in Nigeria
----------------------------------------
Greetings:
I am amazed at the wonderful work of information that is going on at
healthnet.org. Congratulations to everyone that is involved. You cannot
estimate the high value of your work, especially to the healthcare
professionals in the developing countries. This is really, really awesome!
To contribute to your network of information, I have written an article that
may interest your audience. It is titled:
"NAFDAC: Sustaining Grip On The Campaign Against the Production,
Importation, Exportation, Advertisement, and Distribution of Fake and
Adulterated Food and Drug Products in Nigeria".
NAFDAC is the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.
I am a pharmacist, a drug regulatory affairs specialist, and a health policy
analyst.
Here is the summary of my paper:
The Nigerian pharmaceutical industry has over the years experienced gross
importation and distribution of fake and adulterated drug products. The
countrys public health was obviously impacted upon by this practice, which
equally robbed the society the benefit of collaboration with foreign
pharmaceutical companies. These companies deserted Nigeria at the height of
this impropriety presumably to avoid competition and to safeguard their
integrity in the pharmaceutical business. The National Agency for Food and
Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), in the last three to four years
has vigorously tackled this problem and has achieved significant progress.
The agency and its affiliates have been applauded and are encouraged to
remain undaunted in sustaining this progress and in ensuring that
distribution of safe and effective pharmaceutical products in Nigeria
becomes an intrinsic culture of the industry.
Thanks.
