E-DRUG: New drug info resource (4)
-----------------------------------
[double posted to INDICES and E-drug as this is an important discussion for
both networks; WB]

Dear Ken and E-drug colleagues,

I agree with Ken that the drug-oriented part is good information
(though not of the quality of MicroMedex), but that the disease-
oriented part is disappointing and mainly reflecting (bad) American
habits. Where did multiresistant enterococci and staphylococci
originate for the first time?? But instead of this database that we
have the excellent MeReC database of the BMA and the British
National Prescribing Centre (not to forget the 1st class Australian
guidelines).

I have now over a year been subscribing to the
pharmaceutical/pharmacotherapeutic library service offered by
MedScape and I have been gravely disappointed - the selection is
very uncritical, the summaries are purely promotional and the
range of journals covered is highly suspect. The new CD-ROM of
the Medical Letter over the last 10 years is probably a better
choice.

Lundberg took a brave initiative over sex education for
American college students, but he should stay away from clinical
pharmacology.

Best regards,

Leo Offerhaus
